1. Select the security option that suits you

As has been mentioned earlier, the Note 8 offers a range of security options and you are free to select the one that suits you. To select your preferred security option, follow the steps below;

  • Tap on settings
  • Select lock screen and security
  • Tap on screen lock type and select one of the options.
  • After setting your PIN, Password, or Pattern, select any of the biometric options to enhance the security of your device.

2. Facial recognition

Though this option is very efficient and does not record error, it is not as secured as the other options because of the possibility of your picture being used to unlock the device. Not cool! It is however still a very reliable security option, and if you intend to use it, follow the above given step to arrive at lock screen option and then select face recognition. The device will pick up your facial features and you will consequently be able to use your face to unlock it.

3. Fingerprint security

This is a secured means of locking your phone. You are allowed to register different fingers, and each can be used to unlock the device. To activate this option, follow the already prescribed steps to arrive at lock screen security and select and register as much fingers as allowed and toggle the option on.

4. Iris security

This is likely the most secured of the biometric options available on the device. To activate the option, follow same step as at the two above and at the lock screen prompt, select iris scanner, and register your iris. This will make it possible to unlock your device with your eye.

5. Activate instant lock

While you may set your phone to lock after a given time of inactivity, you may want to lock it instantly at some points. This can be done by pressing the standby button, but this will have to be set first. To do that, follow the familiar step: settings> lock screen and security> secure lock settings. At this point, you will see the option to activate instant lock of phone when the standby button is pressed.

6. Change the lock screen shortcuts

Ideally, two shortcuts can be had on the lock screen for quick access. The device always has phone and camera as the default apps for this option, but you have the liberty to change it in your Note 8. To change this, navigate to setting> lock screen and security> app shortcuts. At this point, you can select the app shortcuts you prefer or turn them off completely.

7. Eliminate the need to press ‘ok’ after entering the password

While it may offer a little bit of extra security, some people find it annoying that they still have to press okay after entering their PIN to unlock their device. The Note 8 makes it possible for you to decide whether to go through the step or not. To remove the need to press okay; the first time you enter your PIN or when you want to change it, there is a box that asks you if you would love the remove the option, check the box before confirming the PIN and the need to press ‘ok’ will be eliminated for good.

8. Automatically wipe the device for security breach

While you are expected that your phone do not fall into wrong hands, you can also avoid the problem of having your private stuffs leaked when your phone is cracked. You can set your phone to wipe automatically if 15 failed unlock attempts are made on the device. To do this, go to setting> lock screen and security> secure lock setting. At this point, you will see the option to activate the option of restoring factory set after 15 failed unlock attempts.
