Having battery drain issue on your new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2? If you are experiencing battery drain issue on your Galaxy Z Fold 2, there are solutions you can try to slow it down.

There are many factors that can affect battery performance, such as running multiple apps simultaneously, high screen refresh, maximum display resolution, 4K videos and more that can cause your battery to drain faster.

In this guide, we have prepared some effective tips to improve battery life on your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. Read on.

How to improve battery life on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

Below are some tips to improve the battery life on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

1. Check on apps using too much battery

If you notice battery draining fast on your Galaxy Z Fold 2, the first thing you should do is check battery usage by apps and enable battery optimization. Doing this will restrict background data synchronization by apps that uses power. Here’s how to optimize battery usage by apps.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Apps
  • Click the 3 dots vertical icon on the top right corner of the screen and select Special access
  • Tap on Optimize battery usage
  • Tap the drop-down arrow to select All. This will show you all installed apps on the device.
  • Move the slider to the right for each app you want to optimize

2. Remove or put unused apps to sleep

If there are apps that you don’t use often, we recommend putting them to sleep or remove them completely. It will save battery life by limiting app activity that uses power. To remove an app, just press and hold the app you want to remove and tap uninstall option to delete it from the system.

If you want rather to put them to sleep, here’s how to do that.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Device care
  • Tap on Battery
  • Tap on App power management
  • Toggle the option Put unused apps to sleep to ON
  • Then set the Sleep delay for how long to wait before unused apps are put to sleep
  • Select and set to 1 day3 days or 7 days

3. Don’t run multiple apps simultaneously

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 supports multiple apps to run simultaneously. You can launch up to 3 apps on the main screen with split screen and then open 5 more apps on the Pop-up window for a total of 8 apps. Running so many apps at the same time can easily drain your battery. Limit apps to just one or two at a time to save battery life.

4. Use power saving mode

The simplest and the most straightforward way to improve battery life on your device is by turning on the power saving mode. This is all-in-one battery tuning mechanism that streamlines and make it easy for you to do power saving adjustment in one place so you don’t have to go and change every single setting there is.

However, power saving mode will limit certain functionality of your phone in order to reduce battery usage. There are two power saving modes that you can activate, medium power saving and maximum power saving depending on how much power saving you want. Here’s how to do that.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Device care
  • Tap on Battery
  • Tap on Power mode
  • Select and set Medium power saving or Maximum power saving.
  • You can also enable Adaptive power saving which sets the power mode automatically based on your usage patterns.

Enabling Medium power saving mode will turn off Always-on Display and reduce the brightness level by up to 10%. It will also disable background data sync, location checks and limit CPU speed to 70%. With Maximum power saving mode, you will be limited to just few essential apps and also turn on the Dark mode on top of the other restrictions applied by the medium power saving mode.

5. Adjust screen timeout

Long screen timeout can substantially reduce battery life by keeping your phone screen on for too long. You should set your phone to sleep when it is idle. Here’s how to do that.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Display
  • Scroll down and tap on Screen timeout
  • Select and set the screen timeout. We recommend keeping the timeout value low.

6. Reduce screen resolution

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 features UHD resolution with 3840×2160 pixels at up to 60fps. Running at such high resolution can quickly drain the battery on your device. We recommend reducing the resolution to FHD (1920×1080) or HD (1280×720) to improve battery life. Here’s how to adjust the screen resolution.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Display
  • Tap on Screen resolution
  • Select and set HD or FHD either of which is good enough for most user

7. Reduce screen refresh rate

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 sports a huge 120Hz display that makes it crisp and super smooth. But this comes at the cost of battery life. We recommend scaling it down to 60Hz which is enough for most users and won’t have any noticeable difference between the two.

Here’s how to change the screen refresh rate.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Display
  • Tap on Motion smoothness
  • Choose Standard refresh rate (60Hz) and click Apply to confirm the change

8. Switch off mobile data if signal is poor

If you are in an area with poor signal reception, turn the mobile data off if you don’t need it. This is because when mobile signal is low, your device uses more power to communicate with your mobile network draining the battery faster in the process. To turn off mobile data, just swipe down the quick settings panel and tap the mobile data icon to disable it.

9. Switch off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS when not in use

Turn off your WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS when you are not actively using them as each of these services continuously keep scanning for connections that drains power. To turn them off, swipe down the quick settings panel and tap the corresponding icon to disable it.

10. Use battery saving locating method

The GPS chip combined with WiFi and mobile networks provide the highest accuracy in location tracking, but it is also the most battery draining process. Alternatively, you can use just WiFi and mobile networks for location tracking if you want to save on battery. Here’s how to do that.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Location
  • Tap on Locating method
  • Select and set Battery Saving as the locating method. This will disable GPS and only use WiFi and mobile networks for estimating your location.

11. Turn off Nearby device scanning

Nearby device scanning feature allows you to easily connect to nearby devices around you. You should turn it off when you are not using it as it regularly checks for nearby devices which will quickly drain your battery. Here’s how to turn off Nearby device scanning.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on Connections
  • Tap on More Connection settings
  • Toggle Nearby device scanning to OFF

12. Turn off features you don’t need

There are many features which are enabled by default but you may never even use them. For example, features such Edge panels, Edge lighting, Motion gestures, Video enhancer, Smart stay, Smart alert, Easy mute, Palm swipe to capture, etc are rarely used by regular users.
