How to Fix OnePlus 8/8 Pro Camera Issues

Camera not working on your OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro? If you are experiencing camera issues on your OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro, there are solutions you can try that can fix the problem.

But before we dive into the solutions, here are some camera issues you might encounter on your OnePlus 8 phones.

How to fix camera issues on OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro

1. Close and reopen the camera app

If the camera was working fine before and just stopped suddenly, then it may be due to a glitch in the app. Try closing and opening the camera app again and see if that fixes the problem.

To close and restart the camera app, follow the steps below:

  • From the home screen, tap the Recent apps key on the lower left corner.
  • In the recent apps list, touch the camera app and swipe left or right to close it.
  • Next tap the Camera app icon on the home screen to restart the app.

2. Reset the camera

If the issue started after you have inadvertently changed some settings on the camera and now don’t know how to revert it back, try resetting the camera to restore its default configuration. Here’s how to reset the camera settings.

  • Launch the Settings app from the home screen
  • Then tap on Apps & notifications
  • Next tap on Camera
  • Then tap on Storage and click Clear storage
  • Then tap Ok to confirm the reset

3. Restart your phone

If the above solutions do not work, try rebooting the phone. This procedure will refresh your phone by restarting all the apps and its services. This will also stop and kill if there are any processes from other apps that is affecting the camera app. Here’s how to reboot your phone.

  • Press and hold the power button and volume up key together until the Power Menu appears.
  • When the Power Menu appears, tap the Restart button to reboot your device.

4. Remove screen cover

Check if the screen cover is fitted properly and isn’t blocking the lens. Sometimes covering your phone with a case that doesn’t fit well could cause camera lens being blocked and causing black screen. Try adjusting the cover or replacing it with the one that doesn’t come in the way of the camera lens.

5. Clean the camera lens

The camera lens can easily get dirty especially if you live or have been to a dusty place. Check if the lens isn’t dirty as that can cause the camera to produce bad quality and unclear photos. Use a clean soft cloth dampen with alcohol solution to wipe off any dust or smudges that may be present on the lens.

6. Adjust the camera focus

If you are using manual focus mode to take photos, make sure the focus is correct to ensure you get clear photos. If you don’t want to play around with the manual focus, try using auto focus mode to allow camera to do it automatically.

7. Clear the camera cache and data

If your camera is stuck, is not opening or has a black screen, clearing the camera cache and data may help fix the problem. Here’s how to clear the camera cache and data.

  • Go to Settings app from the home screen
  • Tap on Apps & notifications
  • Then tap on See all apps
  • Navigate to Camera app and tap on it
  • Now, tap on Storage
  • Then tap Clear cache
  • Next tap Clear data and click OK to confirm

8. Disable apps that use camera

If there are third party apps using camera permission, try removing the permission and see if that fixes the problem. To check which apps are using the camera, follow the steps below:

  • Open Settings from the homes screen
  • Tap on Apps & notifications
  • Then tap on App permissions
  • Next tap on Camera from the list
  • You will see all the apps that have permission to access the camera
  • Select the app and move the slider to the left to disable permission
  • Repeat the above step for all apps you want to deny camera permission

9. Wipe system cache partition

Sometimes deleting system cache can fix problems that are caused by software malfunction. It will clear any errors caused due to data corruption and firmware issues.

Here’s how to clear system cache partition.

  • Turn off the device by pressing and holding the Volume up key and Power button and tapping the Power off option
  • Once the device has shutdown, press and hold the Volume Down key and the Power key.
  • Continue to hold both keys until the OnePlus logo appears
  • Wait until the language menu appears
  • Select the language to proceed to the next step
  • Next tap on Wipe data and cache option
  • Then tap on Wipe cache and tap Yes to confirm
  • When the process is complete, select Reboot to restart your device

10. Reset your phone

If none of the above solutions work, the last resort you can try is reset your device back to its default settings. However, make sure to backup your important files and data before proceeding with this option because this process cannot be undone and you’ll lose all data. If you want to go ahead with the reset, here’s how to do that.

  • Open Settings
  • Tap on System
  • Tap on Reset options
  • Then tap on Erase all data (factory reset)
  • Scroll down and tap on the Erase all data button
  • Tap Confirm then tap Erase all data to proceed with the factory reset.

The other way to reset your phone is by using hardware keys. Here’s how it is done.

  • Turn off the device by pressing the Power button and the Volume up key then tapping the Power off option
  • Then press and hold together the Power button and the Volume down key
  • Continue to hold both keys until OnePlus logo appears
