If you are the kind who loves clicking and uploading photos on the go, but finds the whole process of connecting the camera to your laptop using a wired system, then this simple upgrade will help you! The best part of latest DSLR models is that they are Wi-Fi enabled. However, this feature is usually available in expensive models! You do not have to fret even if you have a slightly older or inexpensive DSLR, as you can make it Wi-Fi enabled by following the below mentioned steps!

Use a Wi-Fi SD Card

If you wish to convert your DSLR into a Wi-Fi enabled one then you can simply do so by purchasing one simple component which is an SD card. These networked cards are capable of storing and transferring photos wirelessly and also comprise of a small Wi-Fi Radio. The convenience it brings along is unbeatable since you can use it along with both computers and laptops which enables you to upload a photo directly to your social media as soon as you click it! The only con of this Wi-Fi enabled SD card is that it is more expensive when compared to a normal SD card.

Start the Transformation

In order to get started with the process, you will have to first check if your camera supports a SDHC card which is a slightly more upgraded version of a normal SD card. Knowing this will give you a confirmation that the Wi-Fi SD card will be accepted by your camera.

Step 1

Choose a Wi-Fi card since there are multiple cards available in the market. Brands available include Eye Fi, Toshiba Flash Air, Transcend Wi-Fi and EZ Share. The Eye Fi is the most easy to use and it comes with free online storage for three to twelve months.

Step 2

In order to get started, download the desktop software on your Windows or Mac device. When the download is complete, the Keenai software is now ready for use. Click on “Start Your Keenai Experience”.

Step 3

Register on the software by filling in a few details like your name, Email and password. If you do not want to store your photos online, then you can skip this step.

Step 4

After you have signed up your membership info will flash on the screen and you can click next. Select the Start Your Card Activation option which came along with the SD card and enter the activation number on it.

Step 5

Choose the location folders where you would like your photos and videos to land. However, until you get a hang of the product it is better to use the preset default options

Step 6

Connect your computer to Wi-Fi and the software will now scan to hold on to the temporary network that the software has created. When this happens, put the card in the camera and try to click a picture to see if it is getting stored in the Wi-Fi Card. If the process is unsuccessful, you will have to reinsert the SD card in your computer and click on cancel to exit the set up wizard and then open the Keenai icon and click on “Options” from the drop down list.

Step 7

In the “Options Menu” there is an arrow which will drop down advanced options. After you select your Wi-Fi network, click on the Add Network option and enter the password. The network name will now appear under “configured networks”.

Step 8

Use the camera’s save/lock function to transfer selective files. When you make use of this option, you can also transfer then to a computer nearby. It is also important to use the save in order to make alterations in the settings.
